VDay and Crabs February 16, 2003 - 9:46 a.m.

There's been so much freezing rain and sleet throughout the night, that every exposed surface outside appears to be covered in snow. Yet there has been no snow. It's all ice. Pure ice. Slippery, deadly, taunting ice. The doors to the house are even frozen shut. You can hear the ice falling onto the already existing ice. Like shards of glass into a metal bucket.

As long as you don't have to be outside dealing with, it's quite a lovely sight.

Valentine's Day was nice. Although honestly not super. Chris played his video game nearly all day, which bored me to sleep. Literally. So I slept until 7ish in the evening. Finally I woke up and basically told him to put the controller down. Then we took an hour or two trying to decide what to make. Our big problem, was not having the right things we needed to make the various things that sounded good, as well as lacking the desire to go out and get them. There was slight mention of going out to eat somewhere, as it would appear simpler. But neither of us wanted that as we were fully aware that, especially by this time, restaurants would be more than packed. So we settled on chicken with a herb/garlic/tomato sauce that I've made before and he absolutely loves, as do I. In addition to the chicken, we fixed some flavoured rice and corn. Carbs and veggies. We basically made it together. He wanted to make dinner, but wasn't entirely sure how to do certain things, so it was a mutual preparation. It was nice.

I spread a blanket on the floor, setup a few tealights (small candles) and threw out a few pillows for comfort. The candles were retarded and the wicks wouldn't stay lit, but I got one to work. Not that it mattered, cause we were watching movies, but it was the whole idea of tradition or something behind it that matters.

So we had our 'picnic' and watched Men in Black 2 and Undercover Brother. Romance is so overrated. He fell asleep while watching deleted scenes and I fell asleep shortly after that. And we both stayed there, sleeping on the floor, all night. Well, four hours. Then saturday morning cartoons came on and we got to watch the first two episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I still maintain that the new theme song is ass.

Saturday felt like a very long day. Mostly because my head was tormenting me with the most intense pain. So intense, sleep wouldn't relieve it. Yet again, I slept all day, while Chris played video games.

Finally, I made myself get up, and we got dressed and went to eat. Hooters. Crab legs, with garlic butter sauce. Mmmmmmmmmm.... *drools*

I think the evening was intended to be Valentine's related. There was talk of a movie, but considering prices and lateness, we both agreed Sunday would be best. And it's a good thing too, because the roads became so icey within the short time that we were out, that streets were closed off and accidents were scattered throughout town. 24 car pile up in Downtown alone. Had we gone to the movies, we would have had to deal with the worst of it.

But we did go to the 'bookstore' [read: geek haven aka comic shop] and talked to a bunch of people about geeky things (moreso him than me) and looked through tons of games, trying to decide if we should get one.

Finally, they put Dead or Alive: Xtreme Beach Volleyball in his face.. pointing out the label of 'nudity' and he caved. My little pervert. We came home and he played that for hours. In fact, I woke up about 4 hours ago myself, and found him asleep in the recliner with the controller in his lap and the opening screen of the game running over and over. He was too tired to get up and turn the xBox off. But don't tell him I mentioned this... heheh

It may seem odd, and I'm sure most girls would have been annoyed or bored, but I enjoy evenings like that. Just hanging out and being silly. Oh, and there was a Pavorotti wannabe at Hooters bellowing various songs... while he was a fantastic singer and fully opera-stage-worthy, it got pretty obnoxious having to hear the echoing sound non-stop. But it was a lovely performance, none the less.

Oh yeah, and for Valentine's Day, I made a bouquet for Chris. 12 'roses'. Construction paper cutouts of my hands in red, with pink hearts filling the palms, each attached to a straw, then green hearts acting as leaves. All put into a cup I covered in blue paper and lined with green tissue paper (as grass) and then put some York Peppermint Patty Bites in the bottom, as weight and a treat.

He thought it was very cute. I didn't have the heart to tell him it was unoriginal. I found the idea (at least something close to what I did) on a website. But it was a cute idea and totally sounded like something I would do. I only wish I could have been more inventive on my own.

I think I've rambled long enough........
