Ultrasound September 25, 2003 - 9:51 p.m.

I went with Becky to her ultrasound today.

I've seen those ultrasound pictures before where you point out the little blobs and say 'that's its head' or whatever body part. Sometimes I see it, sometimes I don't.

But it's a completely different experience when you're seeing it move around on a screen. Watching it squirm, moving its arms, kicking its legs. Actually able to see the seperate chambers of its heart, working hard to pump the blood. It's pretty amazing.

And they said there was an 80% chance of 'it' being a girl.

Yay!!!

But no frilly pink stuff... ick.

And last night, we went to see The Italian Job, which was quite groovy, and were waiting outside for her friend to get there. As we were making fun of random people, cause that's what we do best, we saw a little old lady with down syndrome. And I so totally realized that I'd never seen an old person with mental retardation. My immediate guess as to why is the issue of health; they just don't live to be too old. Then Becky mentioned the idea that once they get so old, they probably are incapable of getting around and functioning in society in any capacity, so they're stuck in nursing homes.

Then we made retard jokes.

Then made jokes that her kid was going to end up retarded because of our jokes.

A little retarded girl with a dreaded mullet, horns, wings, a tail, and bad taste in men.

Poor kid.
