A Tree and Giftwrap December 22, 2003 - 12:06 a.m. Chris woke me up early Saturday morning by putting the tree together. We don't buy real trees. I personally feel like it's a mess - with all the needles - and there's the whole environmental issue. I still wouldn't mind getting a live tree, just once. So, it's like 6:30 am, and he's making a ton of noise with me sleeping right there on the couch. So I got up and started helping him. Afterall, he's anti-tree and putting the tree up, this is a huge deal. So the tree's up and we fix all the branches and put up two new strands of lights. And even without ornaments, it looked oh so very pretty. 200 white lights. Simple and elegant. And shiny. We put up a few ornaments so that the tree didn't look so empty when the lights were out. Not enough to weigh down every branch, but enough that it doesn't look so sad and Charlie Brownish. Then that night, last night, his mom came into town and had all of her presents with her, which she arranged under the tree. It wasn't even up for twelve hours before she had things shoved underneath it. There's tons of boxes and gift bags sitting there now. There's not enough room under the tree for everything, a lot of it is leaning against the wall or simply pushed out of the way. That happens when you have a lot of people you have to buy presents for, including your two kids and their girlfriends. I've wrapped everything that I actually have to wrap. Not that there was much. And Amazon sent me an email early yesterday morning, informing me that my package was shipped and due to the delay in shipping and because of the holidays, they gave me a complimentary upgrade to UPS Second Day. Which I thought was really great and highly appreciated. So I should see it no later than Tuesday. Best Buy shipped on Friday, so it's likely to get here in time. I just don't know about the first thing I ordered, which is the main thing that he would be really surprised about. We had dinner with his family last night. It seems so weird to be included in their gatherings without having to ask or verbally invite me. We were trying to plan our week, and he said something like 'Don't forget, we have dinner with the family on Saturday'. It's nice to feel included, even when I'm just sitting off to the side and watching/listening to everyone else. We ate at the ghetto Gattiland. We played skeeball and a few other games for four bucks, earning over a hundred tickets. We traded those in for a SpongeBob SquarePants key chain for Chris, a Scooby Doo pencil thingy (I don't know) for me, and a hand full of Tootsie Rolls. Blahbity Blah. I never have anything to say.
