Tacos and Tears December 13, 2002 - 3:54 p.m. Today started off pretty swell. Chris got home from work three hours early. He brought Taco Bell for me. (Steak tacos with lime sauce. mmmmmm....) We spent the morning being silly, goofing around online and playing Animal Crossing. By the way, no matter how many times you hit them on the head with the bug net, they won't hit you back. And I have Kody, one of the animals, saying 'Nice shoes' in like every other sentence. heheheh (Refers to a cheesy pickup line... 'Nice shoes. Wanna fuck?') We then decided to do a bit of shopping before the masses were released. He bought a book for his brother, two outfits for his stepmother, and Scooby Doo Clue for me. He blatantly bought it in front of me too. Didn't try at all to hide it. So blatant, in fact, that he said 'Look what they had. Look what you're getting for Christmas.' I'd say that's pretty blatant. We went to Kroger's and did some long awaited grocery shopping. Lots of food was purchased and we only spent $51, as opposed to our usual $100+. I could knock that price even lower, if only he would go with generic items more often. You don't even want to know how much nagging I had to do to finally get him to try generic cheese. And now he gets it all the time. Cheaper and same taste...... why the hell not?? We get home, start unloading the groceries, and he calls work and his dad. Work says they need him, so it won't be another night of relaxtion. His Dad had surgery yesterday. Something having to do with an overgrown thyroid gland in his neck. Out patient procedure. Nothing of severe threat. But when Chris tried calling to check on him, he was told that his father was put into Intensive Care. Apparently while they were in his throat, they found something cancerous. At this point he was pretty much freaking out. He hadn't been able to get ahold of anybody to hear what his condition was, and the doctor's were only relenting so much information over the phone... and to add to it, no one was answering the phone in his room. Of course, I saw the immediate logic of throat surgery and sedation, but he had a point when he said his stepmom should be there with him. So, after many tears and several phone calls, he finally talked to someone that eased his mind a bit. Another doctor was willing to tell him just a bit more, not much though. He was stable, there was nothing to worry about (besides a freak chance), and he was basically still there for 'observations'. Also, that his wife had literally just walked out the door to go home. So he's going to call her later. Oh, and his dad was in fact heavily sedated and unable to speak. Having your throat torn open would do that to a person. There's still that element of concern which won't be eased until he actually sees his dad. Needless to say, the afternoon was tense and he's sleeping now. I layed down with him until he nodded off. Neither of us slept last night and he has to go to work in a few hours. My slumber is undetermined because, to top off this lovely afternoon, my wisdom tooth seems to be impacted. It hurts like all hell and has been hurting since I ate those tacos last night. Left untreated, it will only become more violently painful. I know. It's happened several times before. Damn that steak and it's addictive lime sauce!!
