Stylin' with my Book Readin' September 22, 2003 - 2:23 a.m. I have one, small, personal goal for myself to complete by the end of the year. [Number 4, here.] I haven't even started on it, and now have not much more than three months to finish. For those of you that didn't click, it involves reading four books. Not a huge feat, but a goal's a goal. Also, I recently started reading one book and still need to finish it and intend to read Return of the King shortly before the movie comes out, that way the story is still fresh in my mind. Seeing as I'm a slow reader mingled with the issue of me having not read anything in probably a month now, there's been no desire, I might not be able to complete this goal. Mainly, I don't even have the books yet. I've expressed this desire to Chris many times. It's at the top of my list of things I can do for myself, which doesn't require money. If need be, I can go to a library and borrow the books. And having a fully obtainable goal seemed like a very good idea. It's just that we never go to the library and I have this issue where I need to actually own the book, or else borrow it from a friend. I don't know any friends that have these books, and they don't cost much... so that leaves the issue of going to the book store and buying them. Do you know how rarely we go to the bookstore, or even the mall where they have bookstores? Pretty damn rare anymore. So I was surprised when Chris came home with the latest issue of Bizarre, meaning he stopped by Barnes and Noble before his role-playing game. And I was even more suprised when he started saying he has a surprise for me but wasn't very good at surprises and decided to give it to me then. He then handed me a copy of Wicked, as well as a brand new, super nice bookmark. Reasons why this is/was so very cool: He said that maybe if I was able to complete this one goal for myself, that I would find more motivation to do other things. He knows that's been one of my big concerns. So he felt that by getting this book for me, he was helping me get closer to that goal. He saw this as his way to help me feel better. Which means so much to me. He said he was going to surprise me with it. He was planning on leaving it in the office chair before he left for work in the morning, so that I would find it when I woke up. But he's the absolute worst when it comes to surprises. He's impatient that way. But entirely thoughtful, all the same. I'm hoping he's right in thinking that achieving this goal will create some desire in me to achieve more. And it's become my new opinion that true booklovers need at least one really nice bookmark. Even if it is just something like laminated paper or a ribbon.
