New, Shiny Appliance February 02, 2004 - 2:07 p.m. Saturday dinner was groovy. Great food but there was a long wait. And some people in his family are complete lushes. Almost to the point of humiliation. Almost. I don't know at what point they started treating his uncle like a gimp, but they were constantly telling him to eat his chicken or drink some water and would answer questions for him when the waitress asked. It's like he suddenly stopped talking and functioning properly so they were treating him like a retard that couldn't figure out which end of the fork to stick in his mouth. Before we left, they gave me a picture frame with a picture of Chris and I on Christmas. That was my first birthday present. Then I went home and got the package that my stepmom sent. Pair of flared, dark coloured jeans, a striped shirt, and a talking Scooby Doo soap dispenser. I can always count on her to send me at least one thing to add to my collection. Before dinner on Saturday, we went to H.H. Gregg to look at refrigerators. We found a decent fridge for $400 that would fit in the cubby hole of a spot crammed between a counter and the wall. We have to be aware of both height and width. Hence the shitty one-door fridge previously here; which they took away for us. The freezer was merely a plastic door covering a small, icy section. It got extra special frosty, but it did its job. Until Chris broke it. We'd been wanting to get a new one for a very long time now, but weren't actually ready to get it just yet. He figured what-the-hell, and applied for their credit 90 Days Same as Cash thing, knowing he wouldn't be accepted. Denied. Big sarcastic shock. "We have this other loan company we go through, that we could try..." Sure, lady, why not. "You've been approved for $1000." Holy shit! Well... in that case... At that point, we both glanced around and had the same thoughts. He could get his new monitor, he's been wanting a new TV in here, as well as a DVD player, they had entertainment centers, maybe we could look at cheap washers and/or dryers... Limitless possibilites. He ultimately decided that it would be best to not get anything extra. Though he did opt to go for an upgrade on refrigerator choices. Instead of the plain white $400 fridge, we got a kickass stainless steel with black accents fridge for $600. $58ish a month for the next year; six months, no interest. As soon as I realized there would be a new fridge purchase in our future, I started hoping for a stainless steel model. It looks super cool and would match the microwave and butcher's block we already have. But I figured it wouldn't happen, because we needed a small fridge and I'd only seen the steel offered in uber-fridges. Until he pointed one out that wasn't much bigger than the one we had already picked. But we didn't have any measurements - because we didn't think we'd actually be buying it that day - so we were taking a risk on getting it. Well, they just delivered it. There's a little more than an inch on either side and as far as height, it just barely fit. And it's ever so pretty. So far, it's quite a bit louder than the old one. Then again, it's also bigger, empty, and going from room temperature to cold. So it may quiet down later. If not, it's not like it's annoyingly loud. We restock this weekend. Becky's supposed to pick me up at some point today, but I don't know when and she won't be able to call ahead of time because our main phone decided it wanted to stop working. Which, by the way, we thought would cause problems with the fridge delivery. We gave them our other line's number, but they didn't pass it on to the deliver people. They still managed. But I don't think she has this number, and even if she does, it'll be hard to get through with us online. And I'm sure Chris will get online when he wakes back up. Oh well, she'll just have to sit around and wait while looking at our pretty new fridge while I get dressed. The reason for tonight's pick-up? She's being induced in the morning and wants me there. I definitely don't want to see the actual birth itself, cause eww, but it would be an experience to remember. Just being there and feeling the tension and being able to make fun of her later as far as what she says or screams or whatever. And being able to be one of the first people to see Hallie, that would be really cool. Being there won't bother me, as long as I don't watch as they give any shots or crap like that. Turn my back to all the blood and mess, and I'll be fine. I've had a life-long annoyance where I get queasy around needles. Well, needles that go into the skin. I'm fine around a sewing needle. With this pathetic affliction, I don't know if I'll have the same reaction with in surgical-like environment. I would assume so. And now I need to get a shower and take a nap. This hour of sleep here and there isn't working out too well. If only I could sleep for a few hours straight. That would be so awesome. I'd even go so far as to say I'd be impressed.
