Future as Pet Concierge? June 04, 2003 - 6:14 p.m. So Petsmart had a job fair thing today, in preparation for the grand opening of their new store. Which, is remotely near here. We went. I spent an hour staring at the blank application. Okay, okay... I actually had very few problems in filling it out. I just feel like a dumbass everytime I put a pen to one of those things. I'm so indifferent to which shift or position I may get, that the section on the application asking where or when you want to work just doesn't really cater to me. I end up having to check off everything, just so they know that I'm willing to do just about anything. Apathy has its advantages. This is not one of them. Once you turn in the application, someone there talks with you for a brief second. Not really an interview, just an impression and face to put with the paper. She was honest and said that the only position they are even considering being filled is for cashier, and even then, they may already have what they need. I'm glad she was honest. But she also added that they keep the application on file for a little while, because you never know how long someone will be working there before quitting. It's much like the first few weeks of school. Someone tries a class for awhile, if they don't like it, they tranfer. Which then leaves an opening for another person to fill. There was one seemingly positive thing that came out of the day. After she saw my history at the lake, she informed me that there would be a new location opening at the beginning of next year, and that location would include a 'Puppy Hotel'. She stated how with my experience in pretty much that exact field, I would be ideal to work there. "I would really like to see that you look into it." It was really nice to see that she was actually impressed with something on my application. She showed enthusiasm about what I had on there. It wasn't a generic 'this is impressive', but a sense that she genuinely thought so. That's just cool. It makes you feel good. Despite that, it doesn't seem too promising that they'll hire me in the immediate future. Unless they say 'Screw that, get this girl in here!'. At least I tried.
