Morphine Attacks December 14, 2002 - 2:08 p.m.

Okay, a little bit of clarity...

He just called from the hospital and said they are trying to slowly bring his dad out of sedation.

The phrase he used earlier that I thought was something about the throat and shock... was actually something more like 'A lot of trauma to the throat.' Well, DUH! He had it sliced open!

And the reason he's had to have two more surgeries, is because he's reacting violently to the morphine and fighting orderlies, to the point of ripping his stitches. Twice now. So that's caused his neck to be uber swollen and stuff.

This reaction to the morphine is why they're trying to take him out of sedation. But the only problem is, there isn't any other form of painkiller on his chart, and they can't get ahold of his doctor.

This means no sedation and lots of pain.

I can sympathize to some degree, but I'm quite happy that I don't have to experience what he's going through.

Oh yeah, and the 'blood work' has something to do with all the tubes he's hooked up to. Something isn't functioning right with them and a way to solve it would be to stick a tube into a main artery.... in the chest. There is risk of puncturing a lung and other organs in the procedure. As well as a risk of any plaque built up in the arteries becoming dislodged and entering one of the chambers, causing a stroke.

Why can't we simply be immortal and invincable?
