Midget Snow January 16, 2003 - 5:06 p.m.

All morning long, I'd say since at least ten o'clock, the local stations have had their 'Storm Warning' alerts going. Apparently there's to be this huge snowstorm, or at least enough to warrant calling off school for tomorrow.

Every school in the area, and even local businesses, were listed as being closed tomorrow.

And there wasn't even a single snowflake in the sky.

Have you noticed that some people have placed more faith with their meteorologist than with the religion of their choice? Don't worry. I'm not getting into a theology rant. I'm not religious myself, so honestly, the topic usually bores me. I was just making an observation.

Anyhow, just over an hour ago... it started snowing. Heavy.

It's such a beautiful thing too. They aren't these huge snowflakes. They're small, delicate ice crystals. Like dust. We have midget snow!! It rocks! Already, there's an inch of snow that is not melting away on impact.

I always get excited when there's school closings, even though I'm no longer in school. It's as though those memories and emotions of childhood still linger and strike out at the tiniest reflection.

If only they would stick around much longer.
