Spending a 'Bunch of Money' September 18, 2004 - 11:47 p.m. Chris woke me up to ask 'Do you want to go spend a bunch of money with me?' He wanted to possibly get a few games and some more memory for the computer. They didn't have the memory we thought we needed and the other possible options were stupidly expensive. He wanted to spend a lot of money, yeah, but he wasn't looking to spend that much and still get some games. We'll get more memory later, but we have 512 RAM right now, which is good. And for the price of the memory - we're planning on another 512 RAM - we could get a new monitor, which is needed more. He had a few games in mind, one of which was the latest EverQuest expansion. But... they didn't have it. Which is for the best, because we spent a hundred bucks regardless. He bought Fable, which is so awesome. I've heard a lot about this game and there's been lots of anticipation from gaming geeks. It's similar to Knights of the Old Republic, as far as basic game play. There's so much to it. You decide whether you're going to be good or evil. There are so many options, quests, and customizations. It's very Sims-like, the way you can change your appearance with hairstyles, facial hair, tattoos, wardrobe.. all whenever you want. You even build relationships with people and can get married. Multiple times. And there's a list of all your varying stats, such as relationships, even how many times you've had sex. Chris spent several hours this afternoon, playing it. It's not as visually stunning as I'd anticipated, but it didn't look bad. The settings and colors reminded me very much of Herdy Gerdy. As did the camera and movements. Like with Herdy Gerdy, I think I'd experience motion sickness if I personally tried playing it. Sad, because I'd really like to play it. But I've got another game to play. To spend many hours, wasted away at the computer. He told me we were getting Sims 2. Not asked if I wanted it, because that would just be silly. Duh, of course I want it. So that was the first thing we picked up. Ami, we'll be expecting you at the door any moment now. I'll clean the spare room for you and have Chris bring some Dr Pepper home. As soon as he said we were getting the game, my first and exact words were 'Ami's gonna hate me'. I was looking over the manual while Chris was playing Fable, and there are a whole lot of new things. Not just aging people with actual genetic makeup. Just lots of new features and options. Even video capture, so you can record funny moments and share them. I'm just now getting the chance to install it, and what am I doing? Writing this. Screw that.
