Attention Burglars January 04, 2004 - 1:44 a.m.
"Optimist is a word which here refers to a person, such as Phil, who thinks hopeful and pleasant thoughts about nearly everything. For instance, if an optimist had his left arm chewed off by an alligator, he might say, in a pleasant and hopeful voice, "Well, this isn't too bad. I don't have my left arm anymore, but at least nobody will ever ask me whether I am right-handed or left-handed," but most of us would say something more along the lines of "Aaaaah! My arm! My arm!" Oh man, ya gotta love Lemony Snicket. Even though these books read like obvious children's books, there's just so much here to appreciate. That quote was taken from A Series of Unfortunate Events - The Miserable Mill, the fourth book. This boxset Chris got me for Christmas included that one, The Austere Academy, and The Ersatz Elevator, as well as a doorknob hanger. One side says 'Secrets often lie behind closed doors.' and the glossy side says 'ATTENTION BURGLARS: This is a linen closet, not a bedroom.' When I first saw it, I found it terribly amusing. Go, people. Read these. You normal people could read one of these books in an hour or so.
