Is it Just Me? July 13, 2003 - 1:35 a.m.

Is it just me or are headlights from another car on an otherwise deserted and very dark road, completely terrifying?

Those two lights shining in the rear view mirror, staring you down like a set of menacing eyes... similar to those you would imagine as a child, leering from underneath your bed or in the closet or hidden just out of sight amongst the shadows... And all you see is the light... no other shapes, no shadows, just light. Blinding, deafening, petrifying light. All encompasing, a thief to other visuals. Domineering. Powerful.

But then the car turns down a different street taking those penetrating horrors with it, and all fear is washed away. Not because you realize this car wasn't following you, but because when it turns, those eyes are gone and you can again see other shapes and shadows and the car's silhouette and its tail lights... and then there's nothing other than playful shadows and you and the open road. You've been given the 'all clear' to move along unafraid.

Is it just me? Or do you think like this too?
