'We've Never Had a Little Girl' June 29, 2003 - 8:19 p.m.

Now that I'm done reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (I can't believe who she killed off!) I'm at a loss for what to do. I want to keep reading, but I haven't any books here that I need/want to read. I don't have many at my mom's house either. Just a couple, and nothing special. I'm in desperate need of cash and a trip to the bookstore. I may have to resort to a library card. That's just.... heartbreaking. I'm the sort of person that has to actually own a copy of the book. I love the look of books on a shelf and the conveniency of having it right there within reach whenever I want to reread it or look up some piece of unimportant trivia. Even the smell of books. Yeah, I'm one of those freaks.

Not that I have anything against libraries. Quite the contrary, I think they are fantastic places. I love that there is a place that offers a free service for something that I feel is so important in life. Growing up in a poor household, I was very appreciative to have a place that provided any book I wanted at no cost, especially as I loved to read as a child. As a matter of fact, it was just last weekend that my Mom stopped in at a library to make copies of something, and I was elated to see that there were dozens of kids happily running in and coming out with stacks of books. It rocks to see kids actually excited about reading. And I think the Harry Potter books have really helped improve upon that desire. As well as making an excellent book for adults to enjoy. When the kids and parents can both enjoy a book together, that's just impressive and beyond wonderful.

Right now I'm sitting watching Annie, which is strangely one of my favorite movies. It's at least in my top fifty. So of course I'm singing along to every song and saying almost every line along with the film. There are very, very few movies I'm this way with. Even movies like Breakfast Club and The Lost Boys, something I've seen a thousand times over again, I couldn't sit and recite in its near entirety. Maybe only half a movie's worth.

Knowing this movie so very well, I was shocked when they showed a scene I had never seen before; just after she saves Sandy [the dog] in the alley and prior to the dogcatcher trying to pick Sandy up, she sings a song to the tune of the 'Sandy' song but saying 'Dumb Dog' instead. But it's now that I'm saying something about it, that I'm realizing I don't think I've ever seen anything other than the tv version. That scene, as well as maybe others, might have been cut do to time and I've known nothing of it. Woah! And now the orphanage is singing the song that Annie sang when she was there. Christ! What have I missed?! I hope these scenes are on the dvd, of which I still need to get.

"I've got an interesting smile too, sir. Don't you think you'd learn to like me too, sir. Hang me in the bathroom?"
What the fuck?! Now Annie and Grace are getting ready for the movies, singing yet another song. I feel like every time I've ever watched this movie, I've totally been gipped out of these scenes. Bastards!

I live such a sheltered life when this is what I have to complain about.
