Horse Show - Year 2 April 27, 2004 - 5:30 p.m. I worked the same event this past weekend that I talked about in this entry from one year ago. Hour, hour and a half on a packed butt-van full of people. Ten hours standing in a small tent, trying to stay dry and remotely clean, checking people's wristbands. Hour, hour and a half back on the van. Thankfully, I remembered a lot of the people from last year, so I just pushed them on through. Some remembered me as well, which was really nice, so they would stop and talk with me for awhile. Lots of people said 'See you next year'. I held back from saying 'I hope not' because I didn't want it to sound like I never wanted to see them. I just meant it as I hope I get my shit together and will be doing something else this time next year. No eye issues this year. I thought ahead and didn't wear my contacts, just in case. I think last year was due to allergies. But it was raining almost every day this year, so that kept the allergens in check. All speculation. It was bright and sunny on Saturday. Sunday was rainy for the first half and dry but cloudy for the second. Thursday and Friday, though, sucked. Both days rained non-stop. And Thursday was extra special bad because the small tent I was standing in consisted of a four foot wide trail that was purely a muddy puddle. That was the width of the whole tent, and there was no where else to stand except right on the edge of the less-watery parts. By the end of the day, my shoes and pants were caked with mud. They put mulch down, which really helped, but my other pants got muddy the next day anyhow. Sunday's pants weren't too bad, just speckled. My boots went from black to brown, and they're going to be a pain to clean. I only held on to one or two dogs this year, and that was only long enough for the person to run in and grab a program. Nothing longer than a couple of minutes. But given the rain and mud, thus the state of messy dogs, I didn't mind terribly. We went to the Goodwill and Salvation Army to get me some new work pants. Quick, cheap fix. I got two standard, slightly dressy, straight legged black pants. One black pair that fit great and is kind of glittery that I'll likely wear for concerts and another pair that also fit great but I have to wear with my clunky boots because they're long. Those two pairs I will probably wear at times other than work. Also, I picked up an awesome pair of ass-flattering, grey pants and a really cute, long sleeved, pink t-shirt that still had the tags. Five pairs of pants and a shirt, all for under ten bucks. I had to wade through so much shit to find them, though. It's been so long since I've even been to a thrift store, and I'm already wanting to go back to look for some nice shirts. I've got too many shirts with stupid things on them. butt-van: van with extended end to accommodate an extra row or two of seats.
