Happy but Wanting More June 12, 2003 - 6:36 a.m. Here's a piece of an article that I feel sums up the series pretty well. "Buffy's final episode is not the best ever (The Body, Hush, Becoming and Once More With Feeling fit that bill). It may not even rank as the second best season closer. But it does refuse to pander while still rewarding those who have avidly viewed the show. It hits enough familiar and climactic notes to leave fans sated, but dangles a resolution that doesn't tie the fate of the characters in a neat, crimson bow. It doesn't end with a tear, a laugh or scream: the half-smile that crosses Buffy's face hints at remembrances and things to come, a reminder of why the show was so good in the first place. You always went away happy but wanting more." I've talked to several people that were highly disappointed with the finale, mainly because they felt there was so much more that needed to be taken care of. Their thoughts are that you can't end a show with so many unresolved issues. I've had trouble articulating that it's that very dynamic that has pushed the show along. It's just like real life, where things will remain undone. You can't go around and fix every last little thing in your life before your end, so why should a show that portrays real-life aspects as honestly as possible be required to do so? So I feel that last sentence above, 'You always went away happy but wanting more', was the perfect, simplest analyzation of not only the series, but the finale. The fewest words to say what I couldn't think of. Besides, everyone should know that in the Buffyverse... it's never over. You'd think I'd had enough of the Buffiness. All Buffed out by now... That's obsessions for you.
