Friday Five - Homes April 04, 2003 - 4:16 a.m.

1.) How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?

Two houses that I don't remember. Both when my mom and dad were still together. When I was four we had a cute 'ranch' home. Close to the elementary school. Yard had a hedge type fence. Then when I was about six we moved into an apartment. Top floor, three bedroom, two bath, balcony. It wasn't the best, but it wasn't awful either. Then when I was eight, we moved into the house that we're in now. Technically I lived out at the 'lake house' for two years while taking care of the dogs. That was a few years ago.
2.) Which was your favorite and why?
I'd probably have to say the house at the lake. It had huge vaulted ceilings, a large stone fireplace, a sunlight in every room, a second floor that consisted mostly of balcony-esque type rooms, huge wrap around deck. It was completely surrounded by trees and basically on the lake side. The nearest neighbor was about a mile away. It had several problems but the layout, space, and solitude were fantastic.
3.) Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?
I've personally never had to move. But I've helped several people move and think it's fairly stressful. The only way it would be exciting is if it means I finally have my own place that I can decorate any way I want.
4.) What's more important, location or price?
While location can be important, you don't want to end up in a 'bad' neighborhood. Price is always a big issue. If you don't have a well paying job, you don't want to get stuck paying out $1000 a month. Even if you DO have that, you may not want to make that kind of sacrifice.
5.) What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?
This always changes. There have been so many times that I've drawn up floorplans for that ideal home. It's so ideal, yet it constantly changes. There are just so many features that I like, it'd be impossible to include everything. I'd like a few sunlights, mainly in bathrooms. I'd love to have a few acres that included fish ponds and interesting flora and fauna with stone walkways. Lots of trees. A big walk-in closet. Built in bookshelves. A kitchen with an island and one of those smooth surface stoves. Enery efficient insulation and windows. Tankless water heater. Plant shelves with interesting angles. A sun room/patio. Lots of bedrooms. Spacious bathrooms, at least one having a giant spa type bathtub. The list is truly endless.
