So, I've intended to update, just kinda haven't. Deal.

It seems like I'm still reeling from car-like jetlag. I can't seem to get enough sleep, and it's usually during the day. And when I have been awake and playing on the computer, the last thing I want to do is type up an entry of boringness. I have a Con to talk about, and I haven't even felt like going into it. Not because it wasn't fun, just because I'm a huge slacker with no motivation.

But anyone who reads this even semi-regularly, already knows that. I don't try to hide it.

Also, the Con consisted of two Q&A panels and walking around the dealer's room. And seeing as I can't remember a whole lot from the Q&A's and was mostly contending with a crowd while passing booths, then there isn't a whole lot to talk about. But you know, I will. Eventually.

In more recent news, we had a huge storm yesterday. Several, actually. It was a clusterfuck of huge storms.

Bubba Ho-tep and Buffy season 6 came out on DVD this week. It's always cheaper to buy DVDs the first week they're out, unless you want to wait a super long time for them to go on sale, or a special store sale... something like 'buy one, get one free'. So I talked Chris into going to Best Buy. I got my season six, he got his Ho-tep and the cheap Dynasty Warriors, and it was off to the geekstore for us. He picked up the comics in his hold bin, as well as a second issue of Whedon's Astonishing X-Men for me, then sat talking geek for just a few moments.

That's when the storm suddenly hit.

When we got to the store, there wasn't a hint of rain. But after being there for maybe fifteen minutes, it started pouring in combination with some vicious wind.

They turned the radio on and heard something about tornadoes in Southern Indiana, heading south. Right towards us. The rain and wind were so bad, that you couldn't see much of anything outside. It briefly knocked the electricity out once, and we were relieved when it came back on. Only to have it go out again, a few minutes later. And stay out his time.

Chris went out to his car a few times to check the conditions on the radio. Once it finally cleared up a bit and the radio only mentioned flash flood warnings, we headed home. The whole drive, he was talking about not wanting to go to work under these conditions. His work is located near the river, and on a street that often floods pretty badly. With a flash flood warning going on, he started thinking of that street and the idea of getting stuck out there. It was confirmed when we pulled onto our street and saw just how bad things looked.

There's a pretty deep creek that runs along the road, kind of adjacent to his house. If I were to stand in the creek, I might be able to see the street from there. I'd probably have to crane my neck and jump to see it, but it's possible. Well, this creek was so full, that the water was starting to spill out onto the street and into our neighbor's yard, which then looked like a lake.

When we got inside, Chris told me he was going to use me as an excuse to get out of work. Basically saying how if there was anymore flooding or the storm gets worse, I'd be stuck with no way out, so he wanted to make sure he was here for me. It was genuine concern masked by his ability to use it for his own benefit.

But then he felt like a jackass when it got to be the time he would have left for work, and there was no rain. He'd already called in, though, so he wasn't going to change his mind.

He felt like less of a jackass when a tornado actually rolled through our area about an hour later. Even if it didn't touch down. Just knowing the threat was there, was bad enough. We both heard the tornado sirens go off and decided we should change back into normal clothes, and put shoes on... just in case we had to go quickly or get stuck outside.

Damn lack of a basement.

We did what any other person in a storm would do.... ate dinner, played video games, and watched movies. Oddly enough, the power never even flickered here. I'm used to it going out from the slightest breeze.

On the plus side of a stormy night, we got to watch Bubba Ho-tep, which was hilarious.

And read Astonishing X-Men, which was fantastic. Once Chris closed the comic he said, 'Well, he's got me reading it again.' He used to be an avid X-Men fan, but as of a few years ago, he just stopped reading it. Except the occasional comic just to see what's going on and if things have improved any. Being a Whedon fan doesn't hurt in his new appreciation of the stories, either. But as most Whedon fans will tell you, Joss is a master storyteller, so no doubt we'd love the comic.

"Sorry about the timing. Did I miss the sorting hat?"
-- 'Whedon' and 'pop culture' are pretty much synonymous. Gotta appreciate that.

"What does she mean, 'elsewhere'?"
"It means we've narrowed it down to 'else'."
-- Whedon's typical wordplay.

"Hey, Logan. That healing power's about to come in really handy."

"Superpowers, a scintillating wit, and the best body money can buy... and I still rate below a corpse."

"Remember when this place was just flame-throwers and rotating knives? I miss that"

"We have to astonish them."

And so many other great lines, as well. We're already seeing an Angel/Spike-like relationship with Logan and Scott. Then again, they've always kind of had that 'I hate you, but we have to work together' relationship. So it could be argued that Joss pulled that angle from X-Men to use for Angel and Spike. And as he's admitted to using these superhero characters as inspiration for characters he's created - and potentially plots as well - then it's conceivable that the chicken came before the egg. Or was the egg first?

Wait, what was I saying?

Oh, yeah... this: I can't wait for the next issue.

[End fangirl babbling.]
