Easter Politics April 12, 2004 - 2:28 p.m. Easter dinner with Chris' family. Nothing really to tell, other than a tip. Never talk politics with a stuck-in-her-ways christian zealot old timer. Even if she contradicts herself. It's impossible to have a conversation with someone when they completely disregard and disagree with your opinions, believing their own opinion to be fact. There's a difference between exchanging opinions and having a civil discussion... and being told you're wrong, simply because you see things differently. Some people just don't seem to understand the concept that fact and opinion are different. As well as thirty years being a long fucking time and things can change in that time. Should I mention she's insane and believes the war is a conspiracy to control our population? Yeah, happy Easter conversation topic. I blame Chris, he started it. I mostly sat back and listened. I'm not at all political and I try to stay away from any kind of opinion. Well, I don't try to stay away, I think the opinions try to stay away from me. I'm dense, what can I say? And I don't bother educating myself on topics and warfare and all that crap. It's my own fault, I know. But when she started saying something about how the soldiers weren't appreciated and how everyone blames them, I got pissed. I never once heard anyone, for the war or against it, blaming the troops and feeling like they should die while they're there. I'm sure there's someone out there - in the U.S. - that feels that way, but I've never encountered them. I'm sure most people anymore know where to place the blame, if they feel that's necessary, and it's not directed towards the ones in the middle of the fight. People know who the decision makers are. So I bitched her out and was glad to see the topic quickly changed. I still wish someone would have asked her what she thought of Passion of the Christ. That had the potential to be an interesting conversation. Interesting meaning annoying, mostly. We talked to Chris' dad for awhile about L5R, movies. and tv shows. Being married to the zealot, he leads a pretty sheltered life. For example, they used to watch 7th Heaven because it was a good family show with christian messages and events. That is... until the Halloween episode. The mom dressed as a witch for Halloween. I guess that's a sin, because they stopped watching after that. Chris' dad isn't so close-minded, he just goes along with things because she does. When she's not around, he doesn't seem afraid to express interest in other things that may not be deemed 'godly'. Personally, I'd be like 'fuck you, woman'. We ran away from there as quickly as possible and decided to see if Game Factor was open. Being Easter Sunday, most places were closed. But we took a chance, and it was worth it. He picked up Ninja Gaiden and I got the Sonic Mega Collection. It's a good second place prize to an Easter basket. Is it horrible that I'm twenty-five years old and sad that the Easter bunny didn't bring me a basket? You bet, but I still want the damn thing.
