The Laws of Fairy Tales October 09, 2003 - 12:28 a.m.

When I originally watched the season premiere of Angel, and I saw Gunn's sudden lawyer speech in court, I was thinking they were going to go more L.A. Law with the show. Which is fine, because the laws from the supernatural world and how they have to be somehow accomodating - unless completely hidden - with those of the natural world, causes for some major drama. Especially in a courtroom. Just another one of those little details to focus on a bit.

But the thing making me say 'bleah', was the idea that there was going to be a major court scene in every episode. Of course, I should know better than to expect that from Whedon, but I couldn't stop picturing it anyhow. I wasn't worried, but the thought was still present.

So I was thinking about other law type shows that have been out. I don't watch these shows, so it was a short time in thoughtland, but I remembered The Practice. From what I know about this show, it focuses just as much, if not more, on the drama of the people in the firm. I know other law related shows have done this, but it seems as though this one does it more. I could be completely off on that statement though. I just think this show has more of a flair for the dramatic that others in its genre.

With that being said, and after watching tonight's episode, I think this new season of Angel will run somewhere near the idea of The Practice meets the Brothers Grimm. There's almost a Devil's Advocate feel here.

And I don't know why this was really relevant.

I was just waiting for some laundry to finish and got bored. Instead of doing something else productive, I came here.

Angel tonight rocked. (I knew there was a reason he seemed out of character... but what was up with the crappy over-dub?) Smallville was still good stuff. (Did her parachute work?) I'll watch Jake 2.0 after the washer is finished. (Carly Pope, who was also in Popular, is supposed to guest star.)

I definitely need new books to read.
