Dinkley Brigade May 04, 2004 - 12:04 p.m.

Yesterday was a nice day. We went to see Scooby Doo 2 which I thought was good, but I could be biased - and I want a Dinkley Brigade t-shirt. Got some Sonic, and walked around a few stores. I ended up buying Final Fantasy X-2 for Chris' bday and Big Fish for myself. I still haven't seen it, but it was only $16 at Walmart and it's obvious that it will be a movie I will love.

Isn't it odd how there are just some movies made, that you can tell by the commercial you will enjoy, without a doubt? Somehow they just scream out 'This is a Nikki movie!' for me. Fairy tale-esque stories done in an unusual way. Kids taking control. Insane asylums, circus freaks, surreal situations in modern settings. Pure fucked-up, wacky, acid trip induced kind of stories. All of which could be done poorly, but I'm still drawn to them. Sometimes they fail you. Sometimes you just know that they won't.

I think just about everyone has their own kind of movie like that. Something that despite who directs, writes, or stars in it, they will love. Something based completely on their own taste in aesthetics. Based simply on the commercials, Big Fish was like that for me.

And, seeing as I have $400 in the bank and only half of that is needed for specific, important things... I felt it was time to get something for myself. In addition to the DVD, I think I'm going to set aside another twenty or thirty bucks and get a few books. With whatever's left, I'll either set it aside in savings for glasses or medical stuff, or I'll use it to help Mom with the animals' shots and grooming that need to be done this month. It all depends on how much I have, when I get my next check, and how much the animal stuff will cost. More than likely, most of my money will go to the pets. That's why I'm buying something for myself, now, while I can.
