Comics, Zombies, and Releases June 20, 2003 - 7:42 a.m. I wasn't having such a great day yesterday. My attempt at getting away from the computer didn't work. At all. And finally when it was close to time for Chris to get home, I fully realized the extint of my failure and got bummed out tremendously. By the time he got home, I threw on the ol' happy facade. It didn't take long for it become less facade and more genuine happiness though. He can almost always find a way to cheer me up. And it didn't hurt that he brought me two copies of the Chaos Bleeds comic [one drawn cover, one photo] and a preview pass for both of us to go see 28 Days Later this Tuesday. I made dinner, four cheese lasagna, and we watched About Schmidt. It was based on a book, which I'm sure was funny, but the movie itself just seemed to drag on. I know it's supposed to be saying something, all character driven and transformations and stuff, but it didn't hold my attention all the way throughout. Jack was great, as always, and Kathy Bates was... well... scary. And I don't mean in a Misery kind of way. The movie certainly had its moments though. Like I said, the book is probably quite funny, you can see that in various scenes. But I'm assuming it didn't have quite the book-to-movie transfer that it could have had. But I'm so not a reviewer. I can't be critical. I try to justify and compensate anything bad that I might have to say. Anyhow..... Speaking of movies... "BUBBA FINDS RESPECT Bubba Ho-Tep has found a distributor. You heard that right, pal. Now no more bitchin'. Many of you who live in, say, the middle of America will most likely be catching Don Coscarelli's bizarro flick starring Bruce Campbell on home video. Those lucky dogs, though, living in NY and LA are in for a treat when Vitagraph Films releases the flick on both coasts later this year with intentions of going wider. Vita who? you ask. Though not a tremendously huge player amongst the big studios, Vitagraph Films is the distribution division of the American Cinematheque in Los Angeles. (Hey, at least they're going to bat for this film. Vitagraph will know how to handle this flick.) The A.C. has been responsible for many a great film screenings and events at the Egyptian Theater. You've probably read reports from said events here on the Corner. Vitagraph has recently released Tattoo but they're probably recognized for their US distrib work on Audition. Vitagraph intends to release Bubba Ho-Tep September 26th at the Angelika Theater in New York. They'll follow that with a release at the NuArt Theater in LA on October 2nd. Negotiations are currently in the works on a national release. No word yet on DVD plans." It's about frickin' time. Why am I suddenly saying 'frickin' so much? I used to make fun of people that said it. Someone... Make me stop!!!
