Kitchen Talk May 12, 2004 - 12:12 a.m. For those of you that might have been intrigued.... Dawn Power Dissolver really does work. And well. I've got a decent looking stove top to prove it. Finally. This poor thing looked horrible for over four years now. It's been this way since before I even met Chris. I guess no one here bothered to take care of cleaning it, so it had gotten to the point where elbow grease wasn't cutting it. The front wasn't too bad, but the back was just disgusting. Now, it's bearable. A few more 'treatments' with the miracle cleaning spray, and everything should be completely dandy again. Definitely worth the two dollars and change. Speaking of ketchup, I made a really nice dinner tonight. Slow cooked barbecue ribs. Homemade mashed potatoes. Corn and corn bread. I wish the corn would have been green beans or some other green vegetable, but Chris doesn't like many veggies. I was proud, because it was my nagging while at the store that allowed us to have this boxless dinner, not counting the corn bread. I can't begin to describe how tired I've grown of Hamburger Helper, pizza, and chicken with rice. And he never seems to want much else. He claims that part of why he always wants those things, is because they're easy to make and he doesn't want to make me cook anything too intricate. And even though I've told him I actually want to make nice dinners, he doesn't seem to change the menu. Maybe it's a guilt thing, because I cook, do the dishes, and take the trash out. But I have to wonder if he just prefers McDinners. Regardless, he loved tonight's meal. He kept praising the ribs and potatoes. He went back for a full plate of seconds, and then complained that he'd eaten too much. I recommended the idea of adding one new item to our shopping list. Every time we go grocery shopping, which is every couple of weeks or so, we get one kind of meat in addition to our typical ground beef and boneless chicken breasts. One time could be ribs, one pork chops, another steaks. And so on. This way we still have our Stupid Dinners, but throwing in some nice, home cooked meals to break up the monotony. It's win-win. His birthday is Thursday. Too bad we've already wasted our 'nice meal'. We'll probably end up eating Cheesy Chicken Enchilada (Chicken Helper) with tortillas, extra cheese, and sour cream. That's one 'Stupid Dinner' I actually like. For now.
