They're All Gonna Laugh at You November 05, 2002 - 4:22 p.m. The Carrie remake was on last night. I must be very forgiving when it comes to films, because I thought it was decent. Maybe this has something to do with Katharine Isabelle being in it though. Then again... I think just about every film is decent. But it still doesn't compare to the original. And I think that's how I'm different than most people when I judge a movie. Especially remakes. I don't see it as the same movie being redone. I see the story being retold. It's not worse or better than the original, it simply adds something to it that wasn't there. It also lacks something that wasn't in the original, but that's how they compliment each other. See, I liked the Shining remake. I have a recorded copy of it, in fact. It has a completely different feel than the Kubrick version, which I love. But I enjoyed both, on different levels. I'm the same way with sequels. I don't see them entirely as one story. They're completely different movies that are just extensions from a previous storyline. I'm a movie-makers dream. But I could never be a film critic. For obvious reasons. Now I wanna read the book. Carrie, that is. Compare the ending in the book to the ending of the remake. Had I not read The Shining, I probably would have thought the ending for it's remake was odd. When in fact, that's what was originally written. Just one of many books already on my wishlist.
