The Buffy Survey June 07, 2003 - 12:41 p.m.

Thanks to Ami for this...

1. How long have you been a fan of the show? From the beginning, missed a few seasons, just started the past few?

From the very beginning. I knew I would love the show from the first commercial. And I only missed the original airing of one show, and that was in season two. (I Only Have Eyes For You) I think we were having VCR issues that night.

2. What's your all-time favorite character? The one who everytime they appear on screen you do a little squeal? And yes, only one. Don't worry, we know you love more than that.

Always hard to decide. Anya's smartass, blunt, and often naive thoughts prove to be rather humorous as well as emotional. But Xander is the all seeing, Mr Construction guy with a heart of gold. At this precise moment, my current state of mind has me saying Anya.

3. What about favorite episode? Everyone has a favorite. Whether based on comic appeal, sob worthiness, or just plain good acting/directing.

There are far too many to choose from... The Body, The Wish, Hush, Superstar, Tabula Rosa, Restless, Buffy vs. Dracula (it was too funny to not enjoy), Once More With Feeling, Seeing Red, Selfless, Storyteller, and of course, Chosen. Narrowing it down to one though, I'd have to go with... Once More With Feeling. Musicals are always fun.

4. How about favorite director? Not many people pay attention to the people behind the scenes. Joss Whedon, the man who made BTVS what it is? Marti Noxon, who killed everything I loved about Spike? Drew Goddard, a god among men?

Whedon.... most definitely Joss.

5. Favorite season? Everyone loves a certain season best. Whether it was Season 3, with Faith appearing and the school blowing up, or Season 5, with Glory and her awesome shoe collection. Spill.

Season one was establishment... monsters of the week to get you familiar with the Scoobies and the slaying. Season four had the least enjoyable story arc with Riley and the Initiative, though I liked seeing how the government handled the issue of demons. While I loved Glory as a villain, season five didn't seem to have too many stand out episodes aside from The Body and a few freak accidents of the week. This season (seven) lost points because the majority of the year Buffy was wasting time by being Ms. Speech Girl. Season two was a well rounded year, but it seemed to lack something. So it's between three and six. The Mayor and Faith in the last year of high school... or the Troika, a pissed off witch, and a depressed slayer? It's pretty much a tie... but season six holds more novelty as I have season three on dvd... so six it is. And that decision surprises the hell out of me.

6. Do people look at you funny when you say BTVS is your favorite show? I'm used to it by now, but everyone gets different reactions. :-) How do you deal with that?

I usually get funny looks when I mention it around older people. They seem to have misconceptions about what takes place. Demon fighting and witchcraft is only the surface, people. I explain to them that the stories are usually metaphors for morals and life lessons. Just a new way to tell the same story.

7. Do you have friends who watch Buffy? Did someone turn you onto the show? Or vice versa? Do you have a friend who was soooo in love with Spike that they told you you just *haaad* to watch?

I guess I'm responsible for making Becky watch the show. Kayla and I watched religiously while living at the lake, so anyone else in the house would have to either watch with us, or wait for it to be over before watching what they wanted. I'm definitely responsible for turning Chris into a fan. He started watching from the first episode of season five, season two of Angel, and has been watching with me ever since. Before that, he made fun of people that got into it. He hated me for turning him into a fan, but realized it's a fantastic show.

8. Favorite now gone character? I miss a lot of people. Tara's a big one. So is Joyce. And Jesse. Does anyone remember Jesse? Or Oz?

There's Oz, the Mayor, Drusilla, Sunday the Vampire... I think Oz was my favorite.

9. Most shocking moment of BTVS for you? The moment that made you gasp, and hold your heart, and go, "I can't believe they just did that!"

In the finale... *sniffles*... with Anya. Seeing Red, when Warren shot Buffy and Tara, I was pretty stunned. "Willow, your shirt."

10. Sexiest moment? The Buffy/Xander dance in Season 2? The dreaded Buffy/Spike scene from Season 6? Any moment when Faith was on screen?

In 'Wild at Heart' Willow and Oz are in bed and Willow is dreaming, talking in her sleep. As he nuzzles against her neck and ear Oz says 'It's a dream. Come back to me'. *swoon* It gets to me each time I see that episode. Second best, Homecoming... Xander and Willow are preparing for Homecoming, Will trying on dresses, Xander in a tux, and they end up kissing. If that moment didn't have people wanting Willow and Xander to end up together, then something is severely wrong with them. Who says sweet and innocent can't be sexy? If you're wanting a lust moment... Willow and Tara in the back of the ice cream truck in Restless.

11. Do you watch Angel? Do you watch both, or just Angel? How long have you watched Angel?

As well as Buffy, I do watch Angel. From day one.

12. Favorite character on Angel? Everyone has one. Again, just one!

It's a toss up between Fred and Lorne. Lorne gets the best lines, so I'm going with him.

13. Favorite episode of Angel? I have so many, I can barely list them anymore. :-)

Again... lots to choose from. Room w/a Vu, I Will Remember You, Hero, Are You Now or Have You Ever Been?, Reunion, Carpe Noctem, Birthday (Cordy becomes a demon), Provider, Waiting in the Wings, Double of Nothing, Habeas Corpses, Orpheus, Inside Out. Home was fantastic and leaves soo many doors open. But for some reason, the one episode that really sticks out is Spin the Bottle, from this season (four). It was great seeing everyone struggle with vamp-related-memory loss.

14. Favorite 'ship? Are you a Buffy/Angel fan? Or a Buffy/Spike? Maybe you dig Cordelia/Groosalug. Or do you go for the REALLY wacky, like me, and say Willow/Spike, or even Spike/Xander?

Any Xander slash seems to work great. Particularly Xander/Dawn (my fave). " They'll never know how tough it is, Dawnie, to be the one who isn't chosen. To live so near to the spotlight and never step in it. But I know. I see more than anybody realizes because nobody's watching me. I saw you last night. I see you working here today. You're not special. You're extraordinary." Andrew's character works well off of other people too... Dawndrew, Xandrew, Andrya, Andike. There's Willow/Fred, and I was always a Willow/Oz and Willow/Xander fan.

15. Now that the show is over (*SOB!*), who would you most like to see have their own sequel? Willow the Witchy Vixen? Faith the Rogue Vampire Slayer? Xander the Crafty Handyman?

As much as I love Xander, I don't think he can hold his own show. But he could certainly be a secondary character. The proposed show for Faith sounded like it had potential, but nothing constant to hang on to, as it involved her traveling pretty much nonstop. Willow could have a magictacular show. I'm dying to have Ripper finally in production. I think Giles' backstory is what I'm anticipating most at the moment.

16. Who would you most like to see make the transition to Angel? Willow doing research with the gang, Spike sharing soul-having stories with Angel? Dawn yelling, "GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT!" to everyone who walks into the hotel?

We already know Spike's going to be there. Otherwise, I guess Willow. Although, Giles could go to get Wesley's aid in reinstating the Watcher's Council. Xander has no reason to go, therefore his appearance wouldn't make sense. Sadly.

17. Which character could you HAPPILY never see again? (If you say Faith or Anya, I'll kill you...no, not really. But I will whine a lot...)

KENNEDY!! Definitely! I'm still upset that they didn't kill her off in the finale. But I suppose that would have been too hard on Willow, being the second girlfriend she lost in a violent way. So for Willow's sake, it's for the best that she lives...... for now.

18. Favorite Buffy moment? (The character, not the show) Funny, sad, brave, whichever.

Buffy had over 12,667 lines in the seven year stint. So you could potentially call that 12,667 moments, though that isn't even counting moments of non-verbal status. There's no way I could pick one, single, stand out moment. Out of a small glimpse into a series of memories, the information/slide show scene during Hush jumps out at me. When discussing the Gentlemen and their plan, Xander snaps his fingers and holds up his sign which reads 'How do we kill them?!' Buffy's response was to stake them, but using a fisted hand to mimic the act, it appeared that she was making the jerking off motion.

19. Favorite Angel moment? (The character)

'She' - A party in Cordy's apartment, and an awkward Angel is asked to dance. You get a flash of him dancing and immediately, you're fully aware that it is certainly not a good idea for Angel to dance. Then the flash comes back to Angel and the woman who made the offer and he says very matter of factly 'I don't dance'. Seeing that dance sequence was just great. Also this season, I believe in Orpheus, you see a past Angel dancing beside a jukebox that is playing Barry Manilow's Mandy, a song that seems to haunt him throughout his series.

20. Favorite Faith Moment?

This season, in Touched... Faith takes on the role of adult minded, responsible leader. She had to plan and organize and create a strategy. Faith's mindset has always been the opposite. Act first, think later. Now that she was put in charge she proved, probably more to herself than the others, that she was capable of making decisions and doing what was right. That, and she cut Kennedy down after she was being whiny. "So Kennedy, back the hell off and let me do my job, all right?"

21. Favorite Willow Moment?

One word. Eskimo. That or her well-deserved first 'meow' from Buffy in episode Phases, resulting from her line "Great. I'll give Xander a call. What's his number? Oh, yeah, 1- 800-I'm-Dating-A-Skanky-Ho" when referring to Cordelia.

22. Favorite Xander Moment?

Xander has so many... Maybe that he saved the world (school is like a world...) twice, and never once bragged about it. He stopped the school from blowing up in The Zeppo and he quieted Willow's rage in Grave, which completely prevented total world destruction. Xander seems to get a lot of those untold yet heroic moments. Even with simple things, like paying off the rest of Cordy's dress in the prom episode. Things that he's done that are so great and worthy of praise, remain in the background and unknown to anyone not involved in the situation.

23. Favorite Anya Moment?

There was her breakdown in The Body, her solo in Once More With Feeling, her bunny costume in Fear Itself, the Anyacentric episode of Selfless, hundreds of random blunt remarks. Take your pick, there's no choosing.

24. Favorite Cordelia Moment?

In the episode Birthday, Chip came to Cordy to help rememdy her painful visions. In the whole selling process, they did the typical 'It's a Wonderful Life' what would have happened if, kind of thing. In it, Cordy never met up with Angel in LA and because of that, she became a huge actress. I love the part where they show her hit show, which if I'm not mistaken, was actually called something cheesy like 'That's Cordy!'. I hear when they release it on DVD, it's going to have more footage from that mock show. I can't wait! Or there's the episode of Angel where Wesley proudly proclaims that he's a rogue demon hunter, and Cordy's natural response is simply 'What's a Rogue demon?'.

25. Favorite Spike Moment?

Spike usually has a lot of excellent lines. For example, 'Spike, what are you doing here. Five words or less.' - *counting* 'Out. For. A. Walk... Bitch.' Or the moment that someone walks into his crypt, and you see that he's watching Dawson's Creek. In fact, he's getting into it and yelling at Pacey. And in Pangs, he's tied to a chair and Buffy turns an Indian into a bear, and Spike starts freaking out. "You made a bear!" - "I didn't mean to." - "Undo it! Undo it!" But my favorite is in Doomed. Spike finds out that despite his chip, he's capable of hurting creatures. Though they are technically creatures that are on his side, he can't pass up the chance to simply hurt another being. So he's gung ho about getting out there and fighting, while Willow and Xander just sit back and watch tv. "Come on! Vampires! Grrr! Nasty! Let’s annihilate them. For justice - and for - the safety of puppies - and Christmas, right? Let’s fight that evil! - Let’s kill something! Oh, come on!" It's the puppies and Christmas thing.

26. Favorite Dawn Moment?

The Real Me - This was actually Dawn's first full episode. The entire episode was really her moment, as it was scattered with entries from her diary. It helped get to know her so quickly and show just how she fits into the lives of the Scoobies. I'm sure she has a lot more defining moments, but maybe it's the fact that this was a first impression for the character. "If this town wasn't so lame everyone would completely know what she does. And then I bet they wouldn't even be that impressed, because like, killing things with wood? Oh, scary vampires, they die from a splinter."

27. Favorite Oz Moment?

Innocence - 'W: Do you wanna make out with me?' - 'O: What?' - 'W: Forget it. I'm sorry. Well, do you?' - 'O: Sometimes when I'm sitting in class... You know, I'm not thinking about class, 'cause that would never happen. I think about kissing you. And it's like everything stops. It's like, it's like freeze frame. Willow kissage..... Oh, I'm not gonna kiss you.' - 'W: What? But freeze frame!' - 'O: Well, to the casual observer, it would appear that you're trying to make your friend Xander jealous or even the score or something. And that's on the empty side. See, in my fantasy when I'm kissing you, you're kissing me. It's okay. I can wait.' Seems to say so much about Oz.

28. Favorite Giles Moment?

Season 3, Bad Girls - When Giles and Wesley are brought before Balthazar, Mr IHaveFoodStoredInMyJellyRolls, it's suddenly apparent that Giles has been picking up on the Slanguage that the Scoobies use. Mostly, his use of sarcasm has developed into a lovely display of contempt for the new Watcher. "That would be your demon. You know, the dead one? " And you know he's come a long way if he says this to a demon: 'If it's for me to scrub those hard-to-reach areas, I'd like to request you kill me now.'

29. Favorite Tara Moment?

Who Are You - 'W: I really want you to meet them. But I-I just kinda like having something that's just, you know... mine.' - 'T: ......I am, you know.' - 'W: What?' - 'T: Yours.'

30. Favorite any character I forgot Moment? :-)

Andrew, he just wanted someone to play a game with him. Dragon Ball Z. Six Degrees to Kevin Bacon. The license plate game. And the whole domestic thing in Get it Done. 'This funnel cake is kicking my ass.' and 'Where do we put our receipts?'
