Buffy, the Slayer of the Vam-Pires February 26, 2003 - 12:22 p.m. "It's official: Sarah Michelle Gellar will exit her role as the star of UPN's "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" in May, Variety reports. Gellar's decision does not come as a shock: Insiders have spent the past several months speculating that Gellar would quit the hit series, which began its run on WB in 1997 and spawned the spin-off "Angel" in 1999. Now the question is whether the show's producers will try to keep the franchise alive via another spin-off next season, according to Variety. Previous reports hinted that producer Joss Whedon was interested in building a new show around Eliza Dushku's Faith character. Dushku is set to reprise the renegade slayer role on both "Buffy" and "Angel" this season, but she also recently inked a deal to star in a new Fox drama pilot." Oh, it is a sad day indeed. But on the plus side, last night was a great episode. Another hour full of Jane Espenson goodness. Andrew had his redemption. Xander and Anya seemed to find a bit of 'closure', which is kinda sad because I love the chemisty they seemed to have. The two sarcastic people together. But now maybe the ever-desired Xander/Willow combo could happen? That would mean getting rid of Kennedy. I have no problem with that idea. And the story seems to be progressing a bit.. finally. Was I the only one getting annoyed with this whole 'going nowhere' stuff? I mean.. they could have at least put some filler episodes, small fights and stuff. Regular demons and vamps are still lurking, despite the battle with The First. So why aren't they having to deal with them? There haven't really been any small victories to keep hopes high lately. They need those. Badly. But this episode helped immensely. Lots of humour and Andrew peeking out of the closet. Plus the whole closing of the seal. Even though it could easily be reopened, it will temporarily block the horde of the Tolkienesque uber vamps. Although.. would someone need that specific knife to reopen it? If so, that would make it a bit more difficult.. it being in a house full of slayerettes and magic capable people. 'And here's where we hop on the merry-go-round of rotating knives. I blame you and you blame me and we both end up all cut to shreds.' Gotta love the lines they give Anya. But now... we have to wait at least three weeks for another new episode. Then again, that will be helped slightly as a new Angel comes on next week, with Faith.
