Mystical Heroine and Speculations March 20, 2003 - 12:44 p.m.
I had recently read a spoiler (on accident, it was in the tvguide) about Faith spiking her blood, so I knew Wesley jumping out to save her wasn't going to happen. I think it was a nice element. We've not seen anything like that before, on either series, and new things are often cool. Plus it led to extra flashbacks of the early tormented Angel. I always like seeing those. The 'how he got where he is now' kind of thing. As well as seeing Angel literally fighting himself. Then seeing Angelus and Angel merge into one. All groovy. Now, think back to season one of Buffy, or even Angel for that matter. Could you ever imagine that Willow and Cordy would be against each other to the point of having an intense magical fight of the badasses? Even though they weren't actually face to face, Willow had no idea who exactly she was fighting, and I don't think Cordelia is really Cordy. What? You question my theory of Cordelia not really being herself? Okay, so why would a person that's so 'good'... good enough to become a Higher Being... return as an evil magical demon puppeteer? It just doesn't make sense. Now, I could go along with the theory that it's the baby. Its powers are effecting her. But I'm thinking it goes beyond that. I'm thinking she wasn't Cordy from the beginning of the season. When we first saw Cordelia this season, she was stuck. Calling out for help, though no one could hear her. Bored off her ass being a Higher Being. Then suddenly, POOF, Angel does some talismanic spell and she shows up. But she doesn't remember anything. Also, she's still wearing the same outfit when Skip stopped traffic to let her know about the promotion. So that has me thinking... as a Higher Being, is she using her own body? Or is she essentially just the spirit of herself? I would think she have no use for a body, therefore her body is still on earth. And some demon-lover (literally) decided it made the perfect vessel to pull off any apocalyptic plans. Angel's spell may have caused it. Maybe that's far fetched, but it seems that the amnesia would be a convenient ploy for someone new coming in. 'Oh, poor me, I can't remember anything. I'm helpless. Help me.' We help the helpless. And faking amnesia would be a way to learn who she/it has to pretend to be. Trying to retreive her memory, they tell her stories and explain emotions. Did you notice in last night's episode when she saw Willow, her only comment was 'long time no see'? There was no personalization there. No, How's Sunnydale. No I hear Buffy died. Again. No comment on Willow's improvement from the Lighter Side of Sears. She didn't even say Willow's name. My point, I don't think she knew it was Willow. The only personal things that were said, were answers to questions. Long time no see is such a generic greeting. And she even paused before saying it, as though she didn't know what to say. What was she going to say, 'Yeah, hi. I don't remember you'? It would have killed the demon cover. There was so much in this episode. Like.. Angel is back! While Angelus is fun, they need the strong good guy. I have so many other thoughts and theories. But of course, as I sit down to write, they all leave me. I'd love to see Willow go over to Angel after the end of Buffy. But there's no guarantee that Angel is returning. The Willow/Fred chemistry was fantastic. And I can't believe that I caught the flirty eye contact before Chris did. The whole episode we just kind of chuckled everytime they would talk because they both had that cheesy, happy smile. Which seems to only be used around the 'significant other'. Then she leaves after telling Fred 'I'm seeing someone', thinking Fred was hitting on her. We just died! She'd be a vast improvement over Kennedy. Also, I'm still waiting for a prophecy to come true. The one Wesley translated. The Father Will Kill the Son. If I recall correctly, they came to the conclusion that the scrolls had been tampered with, therefore the prophecy was false. Or something to that effect. But I don't think so. I'm thinking either Connor "The Destroyer" is going to go completely schizo, and Angel will have no choice but to kill him. Or a newer theory... Connor will have a son. This son will be completely evil. Which would make complete sense if the baby is what's controlling Cordy. Therefore the father, Connor, will have to kill the son. That's the thing about prophecies though. Lack of proper nouns. Without the use of specific names, you can twist it to mean whatever you want. If you wanted to become an official prophet, remember to never use names. Be vague. Then there's also the prophecy that we're let in on in the beginning of the series. The prophecy having to deal specifically with Angel. Basically it says he'll do some much good that he'll redeem himself and can become human again. That would of course be the end of the series. And seeing as they still haven't decided if it's going to return next season and I'm assuming they already filmed the last episode of the season, I'm doubting he'll get atonement this year. But if the WB doesn't pick it up for another season, then we just may not see it happen at all. Then again... I think the article in Entertainment Weekly mentions the appearance of Angel in the end of Buffy. So maybe Angel will become human and they're just trying to keep the cover on the Angel storyline, so as not to ruin any secrets. Then Buffy and Angel could go off an be together. And Buffy can finally have that 'perfect moment' that she's never had. Okay, she had it, but she can't remember it because Angel had the Oracles take the day back. But, again, this is probably stretching it. But if Angel does show up, as human, I hope he remembers to get the Cookie Dough Fudge Mint Chip ice cream. There are just soooo many possible ways to work the current storyline of either show. And it's fantastic, because it keeps my mind racing. This Tuesday. New Buffy. But I don't think it's on the same timeline as Angel. I believe Faith will arrive in the next new episode after this one. So we'll have 'Lies My Parents Told Me' then another two weeks of reruns before Faith. These constant reruns are very annoying, yet effectively building anticipation. Also understandable as Whedon is currently writing the last three episodes. Every last thing has to be concluded in those last three, so I would think it'd be quite complex and stressful. Allowing these weeks of sporadic reruns gives him time to perfect the finale. So I won't complain. Too much. Here's a new Joss Whedon Interview. I'm trying to remain spoiler free... but I can't seem to stop reading. Maybe I should just stay away from the computer until the end of the tv season. Yeah... suuure... that'll happen.
