Boring 4th of July July 05, 2004 - 3:47 a.m.

Things have been quite uneventful lately.

Chris left work a few hours early on Thursday night (Friday morning, really) and has been off work since then. That's what happens when work is slow and there's a holiday weekend. He doesn't go back in until late Tuesday evening. Despite all that free time, we haven't done much of anything.

Saturday afternoon we went to see Spider-Man 2, which was awesome. Among other things, I loved how they were able to creatively use a lot of the same gags or mimic certain scenes from the first movie. Just subtle things, mostly. Like Spidey slamming into a wall while he's trying to be all Web Slingy, the conversation over the fence after taking the trash out, and even the infamous kiss scene. There were several other moments successfully mirroring the first film in a way that seemed to be more of an homage to itself rather than just a retread of past ideas. My only complaint was that the build up seemed slow. But that's to be expected when the early focus is on Peter's inner-issues and the drama of everyone else around him. It wasn't too slow that it wasn't still enjoyable. And it was neat to see several characters that could potentially be future villains for him. One was obvious, given the ending. The other two - that I noticed - were obvious only by their names.

Sadly, Stan Lee's cameo was too brief. I loved Bruce's cameo, though. The opening credits with Alex Ross' art was fantastic. Very cool, indeed. And the scene in the operating room... wow. So Evil Dead. It rocked.

Aside from going to see that, we haven't done anything. I've been falling asleep around 9 or 10 every night, which completely sucks, then waking up five hours later.

Today, I slow cooked some ribs for dinner and Chris and I mostly watched tv or played video games. At one point there was a huge, brilliant, double rainbow that I wanted to take a picture of. And I didn't see any fireworks, but heard them as I was falling asleep.

Our favorite drink and/or dessert of the weekend: Sherbet Floats. Small glass filled with scoops of orange sherbet, then ginger ale poured over it. Mmmmmmmmmm....

In other news, Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst are filming a movie about an hour from here, but have been seen, a lot, in our town. The latest local buzz has been about their sightings. From fans, I mean. I don't think they've said anything on the news. The film is called Elizabethtown and is actually being filmed in Elizabethtown, which we call E-town. It's so odd to hear of a movie being filmed in the same country as its story, let alone the same city. Discounting big named cities, of course, like New York and L.A.

Eh, there's nothing to see here, folks. Move along.
